Design Museum:
THE FUTURE IS HERE: A NEW INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The design museum exhibition showed all the many different ways that the world around us is changing and how they could impact us as individuals. It managed to show how the boundaries between the designer and the manufacture process were become a lot closer together as the use of new technology which is ever increasing.Probably one of the most intriguing parts of the exhibition was the use of the 3D printer and the way it can be used to change the way things are made around us.
The new technology that was shown within the museum included the use of robotics.
Here are some pictures that I took whilst in the museum.
This technology in the future will really start to change the way we live from 3D lungs to visual models of new products.
Victoria and Albert Museum:
MEMORY PALACE
The Memory Palace exhibition expressed a story set in future London through the eyes of a prisoner who uses his cell to as his 'memory palace'. He is attempting to remember the way of life that they used to have in the past as he believes that without memory, civilization is doomed.Throughout the exhibition, there was a series of pictures and models which used many different media to make you understand how the prisoner is trying to regain his memory. From models made out of plywood, steel, acrylic and MDF to paintings produced from pencil, watercolor and acrylic ink on paper.
At the end of the exhibition, they asked the question; If you could only keep one memory, what would it be?
This was actually more difficult than I first thought as I couldn't pick just one memory to keep.
The rest of the exhibitions throughout the V+A were all very interesting but my favourite had to be the 20th century galleries as i found it very interesting to see how products have evolved over the years.
Serpentine Gallery:
PAVILION
Unfortunately the actual Serpentine gallery was currently getting ready for there next exhibition so we didn't get to go in. However, we got to see this years pavilion which was different in many ways to any other building that I have seen before from the materials that were used to the unusual shape of the space.Looking at all three exhibition I think that my favourite is the design museum. I think that the way that new products are being made is fascinating and I would love to have a go at using a 3D printer in the future.
Overall, the exhibition visits that I have gone to over the past week have given me some new ideas and inspiration to try and be as creative and as free as possible.
