Fashion: Producing an outfit

Week 4 - Thursday

Today we had two and a half hours to create an outfit that our partners could wear. However, I teamed up with my friend and we decided to create an outfit together and then I would wear the whole product. I started by using my design to create a crop top whilst my friend made a skirt and we then incorporated some aspects of each others designs to make them connect and look good together.

This is the design that we came up with. I am really pleased with the outcome as I think that the two products that we did individually came together really well. I also believe that the square necklace really compliments the whole outfit and brings it all together as an item of clothing.

After lunch, once we had finished I then had to put on our outfit and take pictures of it on every floor of  Ravensbourne! At first I was really embarrassed however after a while I realised that people didn't really pay me any attention as within an art and design college it was kind of normal to have people walking around with there unusual creations.
Below are the ten pictures that we took:

Looking at these pictures I think that the lighting that was used in pictures 1, 2 and 7 looks really good and makes the design of the outfit really stand out. I also like the last picture which was taken outside Rave as the sun coming through the trees look really magical and highlights the top half of the design.

Over all this week has been a lot more fun and enjoyable as a thought it was going to be. I loved the fact that we were able to actually make some products and I was really surprised how much I liked the week. Although I do not think I will chose fashion and textiles as a pathway, I believe the experience has really opened my mind to using different technique to produce a design.

Fashion: Magazine models

Week 4 - Wednesday

Today we had to use models from a magazine to create designs over the top. The designs had to incorporate aspects of the sculptures that we had created the day before which was first was quite hard but once I had done one I got into it.

Out of these four design above i think that my favourite is the first one with the square shapes over the body as they do not follow the body shape of the model at all. I also like the third one as the newspaper that I used to create the design really wrks with the background of the graffiti .

After this stage we had to try and add illustration in to the designs:

I think that both these designs are good but the second one is definitely better as the text I used saying 'In the news' mirrors the background of newspaper cuttings.

Throughout this day I actually really enjoyed the activities that we were given to do as they were very creative and I had to use random designs to create new, unusual outfits.

Fashion: Sculptures

Week 4 - Tuesday

To kick start the fashion and textiles week we had to make several sculptures made out of paper. At first I thought that this was going to be difficult, however I soon got in to it as it made a change to actually be making a product other than just drawing.

Here are my five designs:

Once we had completed this we then had to choose one of hour creations that we liked the most and make 20 of them which was very hard to do in the amount of time that we had.
After lunch we were put in to pairs were we had to put all out models together into piles around a manikin, however instead of using our own designs to create an outfit we had go around the room and use other peoples.

The model that we had to complete first was just of our own creation. We had a series of unusually shaped object to manipulate on the the manikin along with some smaller curved designs. These designs were both very hard to attach to the body but the outfit turned out okay in the end.

For our second model we were instructed to create something that represented the word 'Simplicity'. I think we managed this really well as we only constructed a shoulder piece which looked really nice but wasn't over complicated.

The third model had to represent the word 'Aventgaurde' which was fairly easy to do as we just had to make sure that the design was as eccentric and unusual as possible. I really like the front of this design however I would have liked some more time make the back and side look a lot better.

This model had to do a design that only focused on one part of the body. We chose to do a chest piece which turned out really well as the sculptures that we had to work with really went with our design thoughts. I most like the way the two different colours used in the design compliment each other.

This fifth design had to show volume and there for we had to create something that was not just attached to the model but came away from it. We created a long skirt that swept down towards the back and used a combination of the two sculptures that we had to work with. like the last design i think the colours really make the design stand out and make it eye catching.

Lastly once we had come back round to our own sculpture we had to create two more designs of our choice. The first one was a skirt which swooped round the side and attached to the fan design on the front of the manikin. This design looked really good and and complimented the shape of the manikin. For the second we created a full length dress out of the curls and did a back design using the fans which was my favourite design of the afternoon as it really really it really did look like an outfit that you would find in a shop.

Overall, today has surprisingly been really good as I enjoyed the fact that I got to create a physical product and I and hoping that the week continues to be just as good!

Lens Based Media: Story boards

Week 3 - Thursday

For thursday we had to take a series of six pictures that produced a short story. My story was of my guinea pig and the task of having to try and pick her ball up off the floor and back on to the sofa.

This picture shows the sequence of the six pictures.
I found this task really fun to do as even though coming up with a story in six pictures was hard, I had fun trying to take the pictures using my Guinea pig. A lot of lettuce was needed as bribery!

On thursday we had to bring in these pictures and develop our stories further, making then more exciting and with a bit of adventure, but still within the six pictures.
I found this really hard as i could not think of any stories at first that involved a Guinea pig.
However after our group critic session the group really helped me to come up with some good adventurous and funny ideas.

Over all once I had my story in place I found the story board quite exciting to do. However, over the course of the week I really would have like the opportunity to do more of the aspects that come under lens based media such as stop motion films, animations and game design as I believe it would have made me really consider LBM as a progression route.

Lens based media: A1 picture

Week 3 - Monday

To start Monday and the first day of Lens Based Media Tom gave us a talk on the many different aspects that come under LBM. After break we were all given A1 pieces of paper and had to draw one of the pictures that we brought in.

This task was quite fun as we had a lot of time to complete it so I could spend some time on making it look good. However, drawing on the floor was not the most comfortable thing as it was quite difficult draw a big picture at that level.

At the end of the day we had to walk around college and the surrounding areas to try to take pictures of six words, these words were:
Crush
Fall
Happy
Sad
Echo
Jump

Crush: This picture was one of the first ones that I took. Straight away the stones crushing the soil and the roots beneath just seemed like the perfected picture to depict the feeling of being crushed.

Fall: This picture was taken from the inside of a lift as the doors opened. I have a great fear of using lifts which is why I my fall picture was taken here as I always feel like I am falling to the ground.

Happy: The word fantastic I believe symbolizes happy very well along with the use of the colour and font that is used for within this picture.

Sad: For depicting the emotion of sad, I took a picture of a wall. I feel that when you are down and sad you always feel like you are at a brick wall as you can never seem to find a way forward.

Echo: The noise of the repetitive drops going in to the drain sounded like an echo in the background which is why I used it to depict echo.

Jump: Last but not least for jump I used my wet foot prints on the floor so symbolize the motion of jumping on to two feet.

At first whilst being given the task of taking the picture I thought that it was going to be a really hard take to do. However once i got started it turned out quite easy. My favourite out of the six pictures that I took is definitely Jump, as I think the idea and layout of the picture is really good.

Lens Based Media: Story Boards

Week 3 - Tuesday

Today we started by watching a short film called 'Fridge'. It was a really good introduction to the idea of being able to tell a whole story in such a short time.

After this we all had to get into groups of four and produce a variety of drawing of people and other things including our fears and hopes which I found interesting to do as I had never tried to show all my fears and hope before all in one picture.

After lunch, we had to start creating stories to do with the different aspect of everyone's drawings which was really fun as we were able to make then as crazy and unusual as possible.

Overall I think the day went really well as even though I don't think that my drawing skills were the best. My favourite part of the day has to be the very quick chance to do a stop motion animation which I thought was really clever and will really make me consider Lens Based Media as a pathway in the weeks to come.

Graphics: Looking in to the future

Week 2 - Friday

Today's task was to express our past, present and future. We had to think about what we would like to be doing in 2033.

My poster above shows many aspects of my past, present and future.
Starting at the bottom I have produced a family tree which is supposed to represent the fact that my family have always supported me throughout my past and hopefully through my future. Above the tree there are a number of aspects that shows my present.

Here, I have got many words that show my life at the present time from doing the foundation diploma to looking in to the future to 2033.

In the middle of the page I have got a letter written to my future self hoping that in 20 years time I will be an architect and well on my way to fulfilling my dream of designing and building my own home.

On the right I have got an example of the work that we have been doing over the past two weeks at ravensbourne. I have got a college of famous peoples faces and my favourite quote.

Lastly, at the top of that page  I have drawn a skyline of the most famous buildings within London. This is to represent that I want to be able to eventually design a building that people will recognize and want to visit when they come to London.

Overall, I am please with my final outcome however if i was to do this task again there would be a few things that i would change. For example, I would use a different media for the family tree as the charcoal was very messy and made my page look untidy. Secondly, I would like to make the product more interesting my adding different aspects such as pop up or a fold out picture.
